A Selection of Films about

Ley Lines &

Sacred Sites

Ley lines are hypothetical alignments of a number of places of geographical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths. Their existence was suggested in 1921 by the amateur archaeologist Alfred Watkins, in his book The Old Straight Track. Some believe that the lines and their intersection points resonate a special psychic or mystical energy

Ley lines can be the product of ancient surveying, property markings, or commonly traveled pathways. Many cultures use straight lines across the landscape. In South America, such lines often are directed towards mountain peaks; the Nazca lines are a famous example of lengthy lines made by ancient cultures. Straight lines connect ancient pyramids in Mexico; today, modern roads built on the ancient roads deviate around the huge pyramids. The Chaco culture of Northwestern New Mexico cut stairs into sandstone cliffs to facilitate keeping roads straight. Additionally, chance alignments and coincidence are often cited as explanations that cannot be ruled out.

Stone Circles and Leylines

Britain contains some of the finest examples of stone circles and standing stones in existence. Although referred to as circles and rings, most sites are not circular at all, but are flattened circles, ellipsical, and sometimes-even egg shaped. The problem with the study of the megalithic period is not the physical evidence, stone circles, burial mounds and remains of round houses abound. Instead, the problem faced by historians and archaeologists is the lack of written evidence about the culture of the time. Megalithic man may have been extremely cleaver at construction methods; and indeed mathematics, but he appears not to have been literate and therefore never recorded anything of his cultural heritage. Many have studied the circles and there are many arguments about their purpose. What has become clear however is that these circles and rings are works of great mathematical genius, most can be used to calculate the time of year, phase of the moon and some can even be used to calculate solar eclipses. The vast majority of megalithic sites and artefacts can be found on the western side of England and throughout the whole of Wales and eastern Scotland. This is not to say that people of other parts of the country did not build circles. The areas where megaliths survive today have good sources of rock so this was used in construction, whereas people in the other areas used wood, Sea Henge being good evidence of this practice.

2 Films about

Sigmund Freud

Sigmund Freud (1856–1939), was an Austrian psychiatrist who founded the psychoanalytic school of psychology. Freud is best known for his theories of the unconscious mind and the defense mechanism of repression and for creating the clinical practice of psychoanalysis for curing psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. Freud is also renowned for his redefinition of sexual desire as the primary motivational energy of human life, as well as his therapeutic techniques, including the use of free association, his theory of transference in the therapeutic relationship, and the interpretation of dreams as sources of insight into unconscious desires. He was also an early neurological researcher into cerebral palsy.

The first film is about Sigmund Freud's life and work and the second is a discussion of his legacy

Sunday June 20th

At 3.30PM, Marcus West will be conducting a workshop entitled;

"Mantras and Other Energies"

During this workshop we will chant several traditional Sacred Sanskrit Mantra - BUT!  before this, the participants will be guided though a collection of processes to help to loosen and dissolve blockages in our Energy systems that may impede the easy flow of Universal Energies through our energy systems.  The idea is that chanting Mantra after performing these energy exercises should allow the energies relating to the Mantra to flow through us much more freely, and much more powerfully.

The techniques which will be used come from EFT (Emotional FreedomTechnique);  meditation,  breathing and energy techniques from the Hawai'ian Shamanic system known as  Huna;  Chi Kung movements;  and the use of recordings of Tibetan Singing Bowls.  Even though these may seem to be from an unconnected set of disciplines, they can all be viewed as ways of diminishing energy blockages and increasing certain energy flows, and as such they make a very appropriate preamble to the chanting of Mantra.

We won't be doing any difficult stretches or postures, but do wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing.

Eurythmy Workshop

Presented by  Jacqueline Evans

Don’t worry if you couldn’t make it to the last one

Eurythmy is a new art of movement which seeks to make speech and music visible in spatial forms, gesture and colour. The movements and choreography of Eurythmy however are not based on self expression, but follow definite laws inherent in the sounds themselves. In stage performances, this is further enhanced by the use of colour, in costumes and lighting. relevant to the themes of instruments being played.

Through Eurythmy the effect of music and speech on the listener is greatly enriched by adding a visual experience to the purely aural one. Eurythmy is also of value in education, in the workplace and as a therapy.

Dean Radin

Dean Radin (born February 29, 1952) is a researcher and author in the field of parapsychology. He has been Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, in Petaluma, California, USA, since 2001, and is on the Adjunct Faculty at Sonoma State University, on the Distinguished Consulting Faculty at Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center, and former President of the Parapsychological Association. He is also co-editor-in-chief of the Elsevier journal Explore: The Journal of Science and Healing

Dean Radin has conducted parapsychological research in several areas, drawing the personal conclusion that psychic phenomena exist. However, Radin's research has failed to capture the attention of mainstream science and the scientific community as a whole, who support mainstream models incompatible with, and often contradictory to, Radin's conclusions.

a selection of film about the life and work of Sir Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton, (1642-1727), mathematician and physicist, one of the foremost scientific intellects of all time. Born at Woolsthorpe, near Grantham in Lincolnshire, where he attended school, he entered Cambridge University in 1661; he was elected a Fellow of Trinity College in 1667, and Lucasian Professor of Mathematics in 1669. He remained at the university, lecturing in most years, until 1696. Of these Cambridge years, in which Newton was at the height of his creative power, he singled out 1665-1666 (spent largely in Lincolnshire because of plague in Cambridge) as "the prime of my age for invention". During two to three years of intense mental effort he prepared Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy) commonly known as the Principia, although this was not published until 1687.

As a firm opponent of the attempt by King James II to make the universities into Catholic institutions, Newton was elected Member of Parliament for the University of Cambridge to the Convention Parliament of 1689, and sat again in 1701-1702. Meanwhile, in 1696 he had moved to
London as Warden of the Royal Mint. He became Master of the Mint in 1699, an office he retained to his death. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1671, and in 1703 he became President, being annually re-elected for the rest of his life. His major work, Opticks, appeared the next year; he was knighted in Cambridge in 1705.

As Newtonian science became increasingly accepted on the Continent, and especially after a general peace was restored in 1714, following the War of the Spanish Succession, Newton became the most highly esteemed natural philosopher in Europe. His last decades were passed in revising his major works, polishing his studies of ancient history, and defending himself against critics, as well as carrying out his official duties. Newton was modest, diffident, and a man of simple tastes. He was angered by criticism or opposition, and harboured resentment; he was harsh towards enemies but generous to friends. In government, and at the Royal Society, he proved an able administrator. He never married and lived modestly, but was buried with great pomp in Westminster Abbey.

Newton has been regarded for almost 300 years as the founding examplar of modern physical science, his achievements in experimental investigation being as innovative as those in mathematical research. With equal, if not greater, energy and originality he also plunged into chemistry, the early history of Western civilization, and theology; among his special studies was an investigation of the form and dimensions, as described in the Bible, of Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem.

ALCHEMY AND CHEMISTRY

Newton left a mass of manuscripts on the subjects of alchemy and chemistry, then closely related topics. Most of these were extracts from books, bibliographies, dictionaries, and so on, but a few are original. He began intensive experimentation in 1669, continuing till he left Cambridge, seeking to unravel the meaning that he hoped was hidden in alchemical obscurity and mysticism. He sought understanding of the nature and structure of all matter, formed from the "solid, massy, hard, impenetrable, movable particles" that he believed God had created. Most importantly in the "Queries" appended to "Opticks" and in the essay "On the Nature of Acids" (1710), Newton published an incomplete theory of chemical force, concealing his exploration of the alchemists, which became known a century after his death.
